Larry Stephenson lives in Andover, Kansas, a sleepy suburb of the city of Wichita. He and his wife, Sheryl, share the life they enjoy with a yellow Lab named Lexi and cat, "Kitty." Together, they have three grown sons. Click here to meet the family!

Between the years 1978-1990, Larry was selected to exhibit in many of the most respected watercolor competitions in the country. These included Exhibits of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Water-media Exhibition, Kansas Watercolor Society, New Mexico Watercolor Society, Oklahoma Watercolor Society and Midwest Watercolor Society among others. His paintings have twice been selected to tour with the American Watercolor Society National Traveling Exhibition, (1979-1980) (1987-88) He was also included in the National Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibition, 1987-88. He has been selected to be included in Exhibitions at the Butler Institute of Fine Art and Salamagundi Club Open Exhibitions in New York City.

More recently Larry has exhibited in the Watercolor USA in 2005, 2006, and 2007, receiving major cash awards all three years. Larry currently serves as a board member for the Watercolor USA Honor Society and is coeditor of the membership newsletter.

Since the early 90's much of Larry’s energy was channeled into publishing a highly successful line of poster prints. It was in 1996 that the publishing rights for much Larry’s work were sold to Sunrise Greeting Cards in Bloomington, Indiana. Larry worked on contract in a combined marketing relationship with Sunrise Greeting cards from 1994 –1998 while licensing many of his designs to Sunrise. Larry worked as a free-lance illustrator and designer while licensing his art to the stationery and greeting card industries until 2000.

While his work was appearing on hundreds of products worldwide, throughout much of the 1990’s, Larry was not painting for himself. In January of 2000, Larry began thinking seriously about creating a new collection of paintings that he had longed to do for many years. Those new works are included here in a nostalgic blend of contemporary watercolors. All of these paintings have been completed since January 2001. The artist uses a combination of gouache, watercolor, and egg tempera. Says Larry; “This is where my heart is.”
