Each summer I travel out West to do a few choice art fairs. I love to fly fish and I try to link these shows up with a little fishing in between stops. During the summer of 2009 I fished the Yakima River in the state of Washington on my way to the Seattle area. Ryan Fifield from Worley Bugger Fly Company took me on a guided trip down the Yak in his drift boat. Among the fish that I caught was a 20 inch native Rainbow on a dry stone fly. Later that same trip out west I fished the Green River in the Flaming Gorge of eastern Utah after my art show in Park City and took an even bigger Brown on a dry fly. Life is good. Look for new fun paintings of this year's fishing trip out west!

Yakima Rainbow Trout

Joe Mendez holds up Sheryl’s first fish of the day. Bigger things were on the horizon, but we needed to wait until our second day on the water before things heated up a bit.

October is a great time to get your line stretched inside the bays along the gulf coast. Sheryl caught this 29 inch Red on the second day of our trip. We caught Reds and Sea trout over two days of fun with the help of our expert guide. All of our fish were released to fight another day.

Larry managed to catch a 27 inch Red, but Sheryl took honors with her larger 29 inch fish. Not so unusual. Sheryl loves to fish. We fished with spinning gear and jigs.

Catching Cutthroat on the Snake River

This summer Sheryl and I managed to slip away for a few days of great fly fishing below the Tetons north of Jackson, Wyoming. With the help of our expert guide, Mark Fuller, we caught and released native cutthroat trout until our arms grew sore. Jackson Hole is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth and the fishing isn't half bad on the Snake River either.

The fishing can be over the top with the right guide service. Jack Dennis Sports in downtown Jackson is a varified legend. We were not disappointed. Mark Fuller knew the Snake like the back of his hand.

And, here's the painting this fishing trip inspired!
